James Bagnall, the company director has specialized in Bath stone most of his working life.
“I have over 15 years professional experience working with stone in general but it all started with my Uncle Baz in France when I was 16. I suppose stone had always interested me as I’d grown up around some of the most beautiful stone work in the country maybe even the world, living in Bath.
My uncle was a stone mason and took me under his wing when my family moved to France. I was his laborer initially, and from there I really got the bug. I decided to move back to Bath to do my apprenticeship at Bath college and the rest is history really.”
Our story
Southwest Masonry takes great pride in all of its projects from fire places to multi story buildings. James has a broad range of expertise to help you carry out your project from start to finish.
“First and foremost I am a banker stone mason. A banker mason uses various hand and power tools to cut, carve, and shape stone. I can produce anything from stones with simple chamfers to tracery windows, detailed moldings and the more classical architectural building masonry.”
When working a stone from a sawn block, I make sure that the stone is bedded in the right way, so the finished work sits in the building in the same orientation as it was formed on the ground.”
With this specialist knowledge Southwest Masonry always works according to a brief or a set of designs provided to deliver your project on time and on spec. No project is too big or small and projects can be carried out across the south west of England.
